What Ho Gang,
My interest has been aroused in a 12 Bore Charles Boswell, serial number 9675. I have devoured the information on this site, ( Many thanks) and ask if the serial number can be dated ?

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.

Serial numbers below the 13000 range are not reliable. The address is important. from 1872 to 1890 the numbers go from 1500 to 9000. From 1883 to 1922 they go from 11000 to 12000 the address being 126 Strand.

My thanks for your reply.......confusing, but I can cope with history being so.
I am told that the barrels are marked, ""Charles Boswell Maker 123 Strand London WC" and as the seller got the serial number wrong I suspect that 123 actually reads 126.
I have asked for image of the barrel lock stampings so may return again to trouble you with those.
