Hi John,
In addition to No. 5909, I recently acquired another CW Andrews BLE— No. 5105 — as part of a parcel of 5 guns at auction (must stop bidding while drinking). Would you have a date for this one?
Other guns acquired were four 12 bore BLNEs:
William Lee, no. 2037; Salter & Varge, no. 5355; BSA, no. 34892; Midland Gun Co. no. 76664
If you have any date details for these, I would be grateful.

The C W Andrews is about 1907, not very specific I'm afraid. William Lee, about 1892, again not very specific. Salter & Varge - no idea, no serial numbers at all. BSA - 1910-1911 but serial numbers not very reliable. Midland Gun Co - 1910 about. If you don't drink you will die !

Dear John,
It might be of interest to know that Holts has a very rough, c.1920s CW Andrews BLNE in its sealed bids auction, of which it says "Undersides marked with the BSA trademark".

During the First World War there was a shortage of shotgun barrels. B S A were one of the only firms to have some, and they sold them to a number of gun makers. I had in my collection a R B Rodda & Co 12 bore the barrels of which were dated to 1920 and stamped with the B S A trade mark. It was hardly used but I sold it because it was not typical of R B Rodda many of whose guns actually came from W & C Scott.
