Holts September Auction
There is an interesting Beesley up for auction at Holts on 21st September. http://auctions.holtsauctioneers.com/asp/fullCatalogue.asp?salelot=A0917+++1412+&refno=++117747&saletype= From my records and knowledge of Frederick Beesley, I can say that it was bought on 21 September 1897 by Lord Wimborne ...

Re: R B Rodda & Co Calcutta & Birmingham .404 Jeffery
Allen, I was interested in your observation about hexagonal bolts and it set me off! Allen keys were being patented under various names as far back as 1860 in the US however manufacturing of the patented wrenches never took place because of the associated expense with manufacturing at that time. The...

John, forgive me, but I make out those proof marks as being the 1896-1904 set.

So I particularly liked this plainly engraved HJ Hussey: http://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/51779_600x400.jpg And this not so plainly engraved Harrison & Hussey: http://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/51780_600x400.jpg Not forgetting a top quality F Beesley: http://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/51781_600x400.jpg Anyone else go? Holts Auction
Spent a couple of hours at Holts today. In my jacket. It was hot. 32 degrees C. By the time I'd finished viewing one gun I had to go outside to cool down. Then back in again! Lovely pair of saw-handled duellingpistols, which Nick kindly got out of the viewing case for me. Felt just so right in the h...

A Rare & Unusual F Beesley O/U Double Rifle
A .350 double O/U backlock ejector rifle by F Beesley. Bought in by him in 1911 as he was developing his own ideas for O/U shotguns. In fact this is one of two such rifles he bought in at the same time. They have a Germanic look about them, but I know little about German O/Us of that period. I under...

Good girl!
What was it? Did you nab it? Did she retrieve it?
I think we should be told!

Interesting Lang & Hussey Detonating
I viewed this Lang & Hussey at a recent Holts auction. Apart from the attractive plain border engraving, this gun has the fern leaf carving on the detonating more usually practised on Frederick Beesley's best guns. Makes me wonder if they had an agreement? Or maybe this was just Henry J Hussey tryin...
