Re: Inverted lock inscription?

Very strange, never seen it before, can't understand why it should be like this. I also note that there is no screw retaining the hammer or even any provision for it ! I think it is rust and dirt covering up either the screw hole or the broken shaft of the screw. The gun is dirty and in poor condit...

Hi Stephen,

Seems we had a glitch when reprogramming the website. Fortunately I have a copy of the original William Smith entry so have reinstated this. Search for William Smith in London - too many Smiths !
Thank you very much!

IGC Database, Samuel and Charles Smith

I'm trying to find information in the database on Samuel and Charles Smith of 64 Princes Street, Leicester Square. The database entry says "See William Smith, St James's". However, there does not seem to be a matching entry. Is there any information in the database?

Thanks in advance.

Inverted lock inscription?

Image

Both lock plates on this well-worn Samuel and Charles Smith pinfire have inverted name/address inscriptions. Has anyone encountered this on any other Smith gun, or any British gun for that matter?

Unfortunately it is in poor condition, and it was converted in its working life to centre-fire – but it is the only Murcott pinfire I’ve ever come across. Perhaps someone else has a Murcott pinfire and can help...
