Re: Date of manufacture and value of Charles Boswell matched Pair of 20 Ga

He never made any Over and Under guns, any monoblock guns, seldom made 20 bores or sideplated guns or...

Re: Samuel Smallwood

Hi Andrew,

Sorry to say, no records are known to exist but as the firm traded up to 1957 it might be possible to find a member of the family living in Shrewsbury and they may they have records. Worth a try!

Hi John,

Your gun dates to 1975, I would like to own it! Hopefully you have read the history of the firm in our database and learned more about the gun.

Re: Chubb of Edgware Road

The firm traded as Chubbs of Edgware, Chubb is a mistake. I think the auctionerr got the name wrong. Almost certainly they bought guns from several makers in the Birminghm gun trade and got the makers to put the Chubbs name on them.

Re: Salter & Varge

A lot of guns and parts were made in the late 1800s and not all of them were sold. It would be natural and typical that a merchant such as Salter & Varge would hunt around Birmingham makers to find guns to sell. I don't think this gun was re-barrelled in its early life but almost certainly is wa...
