Driving back this evening I saw the largest Fox, by a long way, that I`ve ever seen. I`ve done some searches and it seems that the largest dog Foxes can be as heavy as 30 lbs. My smallest dog is about 35lbs and this Fox was appreciably bigger than her.
Has anyone else any experience of `oversize` Foxes ?

I`m sure that you`re right about them being well fed Wolfie - plenty of Rabbits around.
What`s the Rabbit population on the Isle of Wight like ? I know that just over the water in the New Forest the Rabbit population has exploded over the last three years or so with breeding taking place almost all year round and no sign of mixy yet.

Its good, rabbit population wise, there is a bit of mixy about though,so much so that if i see one with it i knock it on the head

Dear Grumpy,
Just ran across your post and it seems to me that a fox weighing over 35 pounds is literally out of the question. Even 30 pounds sounds enormous for Mr. Fox.
So what was it? I think these "bizarre animal" sightings by responsible observers are so often passed off by wildlife officials as impossible, yet there was indeed something remarkable there that bears investigation. Most likely is is some exotic animal that has been kept as a pet and then gone wild. But what!
It is like a cougar in Manhattan (or the wolf my wife and I clearly saw in a fairly poplated farming area of western Tennessed in 2000). The wildlife officials just pass it off and either don't want to alarm the public, or are so set in their thinking that they refuse to acknowledge that oddities do exist.
Aloha, Ka'imiloa

hi,having shot a lot of foxes over the last ten years or more [its my passion]i will stick in my tenpennyworth .the largest one i ever shot was twice the size of the ones usually found in my area but did not weight anything like twice as much ,large foxes tend to be rangy creatures somewhat in build like greyhound[a loose description only]
